Now’s the time to go on offense

I don’t know about you, but it feels like we all need to take a collective deep breath after this first quarter of 2024. Things are actually looking up, and yet, as you look at headlines, you’d think real estate is still screwed.

And now with the NAR settlement sending everyone into a frenzy this week, let’s get our heads on straight before Q2 officially begins. At times like these it’s important to stay focused on what truly matters. My belief is that the north star for our industry has always been the seller, and that agents’ spheres of influence are the overwhelming source of those sellers. There’s a lot to be figured out about buyers from here, but my strong guidance to everyone, including everyone here at MoxiWorks, is to focus on finding and winning listings. Our products have always excelled at this, and so have our customers. There’s never been a more important time than right now to stay true to that.

There are so many smart, hardworking go-getters in this industry who are making adjustments, investing in their agents, investing in technology, and their futures. Yes, we still have to be financially conservative and no, we aren’t going back to the days of 2022, but we are headed back to more fruitful times.

Our March Home Sales Predictor data just dropped, and the model is showing there will be 426K home sales in March and just a few less than that in April. I believe that we’re past the bottom of this latest housing recession, and things are going to continue to get better from here.

Maybe you didn’t have the Q1 you were hoping for, or, maybe you did. Maybe things are finally looking up. During all this hoopla, don’t forget, even for a moment, how important what you do is for your clients. The homeowners, they need you more than ever. This settlement has made the media think that buyers agents are going to go by the wayside (not true). They are also getting fed headlines about how interest rates, mortgage rates, everything is the worst. It’s not the worst. Buying and selling a home is still a smart idea and consumers will continue to transact homes for the same life reasons they always have. But because of this confusion they need you, they need your agents.

And, the economy needs your agents. Agents are the ones who can unlock more listings. If, on average, every agent knows upwards of 400 people, the most important thing agents should be doing right now is working their sphere. Educating them on why they shouldn’t wait. Helping get them past “I’m not ready.”
